COVID Protocols

 Port Townsend School of Woodworking
Covid-19 Updates
***Updated March 2023***

Summary:

Beginning on April 3, 2023, PTSW is no longer requiring vaccination confirmation to attend a PTSW course.

If you have questions or comments, please contact Executive Director Heron Scott at heron@ptwoodschool.org or call 360-344-4455.

PTSW Mitigation:

  • Ventilation – PTSW will continue to prioritize ventilation in our classrooms. We will run air purifiers in each bench room and open windows and doors to allow maximum airflow. Please wear layers to stay warm!

  • Visitors – PTSW will continue to restrict drop-in visitors and guests to our classrooms during classroom hours (9-5). PTSW will have signage discouraging drop-in visitors to our classrooms.

  • No penalties for cancellations – If you need to drop a course due to contracting COVID, PTSW will refund your tuition and won’t impose any cancellation fees or penalties. If you are sick, stay home!

Facial Coverings:

Facial coverings and masks are optional. PTSW recommends following the guidance of Jefferson Country Healthcare regarding masks use. Those recommendations can be found here.

PTSW will reserve the right to implement a masking policy at any time.

Fully Vaccinated Campus

Effective April 3, 2023, PTSW will no longer be a fully vaccinated campus. Students are not required to provide vaccination confirmation.

Student Expectations:

We encourage all students to be safe and compliant with the best practices as recommended by health officials when outside of PTSW facilities. This behavior will help ensure every student has a great, safe experience. We appreciate your cooperation.

Please prioritize communicating with your fellow classmates around COVID-19 risk mitigation procedures. For example, if you need to move within 6 feet of someone or share a tool, ask first.

Sanitizing surfaces consistently before and after use is difficult to remember. A good rule of thumb is to wash or sanitize your hands once per hour.

Procedure for a Positive COVID-19 Test:

If any individuals are diagnosed COVID-19 positive, the following procedures are to take place:

  • All PTSW students, instructors, and staff that have had contact with the person will be notified immediately.

  • An individual who is sick may no longer attend a PTSW program, facility, or activity.

  • Before returning, an individual who is sick must follow the current CDC guidelines for quarantining. Those can be found here

Procedure if a Student is Feeling Unwell During a Course:

If a student feels unwell or exhibits symptoms of COVID-19, the following procedures are to take place:

  • Student informs instructor or Executive Director

  • Student leaves classroom

  • Student calls Jefferson County COVID-19 hotline (360.344.3094) and consults with a healthcare professional

  • Based upon advice given by the healthcare professional, student may:

    • Return to class

    • Get tested for COVID-19

    • Re-assess the following morning with Jefferson County Public Health

  • Student must clarify with the instructor or the Executive Director which option is chosen

  • The instructor or Executive Director will communicate with the rest of the student cohort about the student who felt unwell and the decision around their continued enrollment in the course

Refund Policy:

If a course has to be canceled or delayed due to COVID-19, PTSW will refund students a prorated amount based upon the cost of the overall tuition. All unused materials fees will be refunded. For example, if a five-day course with a $500 tuition fee has three days canceled, $300 will be refunded to the student.

If a student leaves a course before the end of a course, that student will be refunded at prorated tuition based upon the amount of instruction days completed. All unused materials fees will be refunded. For example, if a student in a five-day course with a $500 tuition fee only completes two days of instruction, $300 will be refunded to the student.

If you have questions or comments, please contact Executive Director Heron Scott at heron@ptwoodschool.org or call 360-344-4455.
