John McCormack is a furniture designer, maker and teacher who has recently moved to Port Townsend, Washington from San Francisco California, to teach at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking.
He is a graduate of the Cabinet and Furniture Making Program at the North Bennet Street School in Boston and holds an MFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has a BA in Biology: Ecology and Systematic Biology from San Francisco State University.
He is a Master Member of the Baulines Craft Guild and published in numerous journals, including Fine Woodworking.
John is a solo long-distance kayaker, having paddled the complete Canadian portion of the Inside Passage. His interests are varied: beyond solo-shop, craft-based furniture design and making, he believes that "that teaching is social design, where you are paid to give your knowledge to students rather than embodying it in an object”.
