A resident of Port Townsend for over 20 years, Greg grew up in a military family and has lived all over the world and the United States, including extended periods in Germany and Japan. His family eventually settled in Minnesota, where he studied and worked as a fluid hydraulics power technician. He entered the building trades as a painter, and then worked as a carpenter before specializing in finish and trim carpentry starting in the early 1980s.

Greg and his family traveled to the Pacific Northwest in 1986 where he enrolled in the Northwest School of Wooden Boat-building's small craft program. He subsequently built a 20’ George Stadel design sloop. Next, he started his own licensed specialty subcontractor business doing high-end trim and finish carpentry.

He has built his own house and shop twice - once in Minnesota, and again in Port Townsend.

Greg specializes in Windsor chairs. He has studied multiple times with Mike Dunbar at The Windsor Institute in Hampton, NH. He also builds the occasional Gypsy Wagon, and co-instructs Gypsy Wagon and green woodworking furniture classes.

Greg is the author of Taunton’s Trim Complete: Expert Advice From Start to Finish published by Taunton Press.
