Carving Workshop: all levels
***This class has been changed to Relief Carving Fundamentals***
This class is an "open carving" class where you can bring in any carving project you want to work on. This week is open to beginning or experienced carvers.
If you are currently working on a carving project and are having difficulties with the next step, Mary can help you get through it. If you don't have a project in mind, Mary can provide one. If you have never picked up a carving gouge before, Mary can show you how! So, the bottom line is - carve whatever you want, and we'll figure it out as we go!
Mary will be contacting each student individually before the class to see what project they have in mind and to make sure that everyone is fully equipped and prepared.
Tools and materials
Because each project is unique and individual, students should bring and prepare their own wood. Mary will speak with you in advance to give guidance if they have questions. She can suggest a materials and tool list based on your project.
"Beginner's kits" are also available from the school if you prefer not to prepare your own stock. The kit includes:
Basswood: 1 piece approx. 5 to 6" wide x 7 to 8" long x 1" thick
Mahogany: 1 piece - same size as above
Walnut: 1 piece - same size as above
This is an all levels class open to all students - both beginner and advanced. Be aware that the class is designed to give students guidance for individual projects. For beginning students, you may not have as much focus or guidance as the more structured beginning class: Relief Carving Fundamentals.
