Explore four techniques to relate the surface of your turned or sculpted form to color, texture and lusciousness.
Learn to use dyes and oil paints resulting in a deep finish.
Experimenting with acrylic washes offers a different way to add color to your turning and texture when using the paint full strength with the Fine Line Applicator.
We will work with a hot as well as a cold wax resist to create drawings and/or patterns.
Students will leave with four 8” x 8” panels - one for each technique - (to serve as future references), as well as four embellished turnings.
Tools & Materials
Students can bring their favorite embellishing tools or use the ones provided by instructor. No tools are required for this course.
Students are required to bring unfinished pieces on which to practice. Helga recommends bringing either:
- Four sanded and seasoned but otherwise UNFINISHED vessels or sculptures, light in color ( like Madrone, Holly, Ash, Hackberry). Consider them as practice pieces; they can be discarded work or even flat pieces of sanded light colored wood.
- Or, if you would like to practice the techniques but don't have any practice vessels on hand, you can practice on wood panels. You can either bring four 8 x 8 cradled panels or buy uncradled panels from Helga in class. **If you would like to purchase panels, please check the "Optional- Buy 4 Panels" box when you complete the merchandise section of your registration form.**
