"My weekend workshop is a hands-on class for woodworkers. We will go step-by-step in the process of making the most common Greene and Greene details.

Darrell Peart is a Seattle based furniture maker and woodworking author, known for his Greene and Greene Style Furniture. 

Class Description

Everyone will build the sample piece shown here.

It's an informal atmosphere with a chance to talk woodworking and Greene and Greene. (Two of my favorite subjects!)"

Tools

This is the recommended tool list that you should have if you plan to build Greene and Greene details on your furniture. The school has the layout tools and mallets. Darrell has a small collection of the templates and small chisels that you can use in class if you want to defer your purchases.

These tools are primarily for the layout and tuning of the details. Darrell teaches you how to use routers and other power tools for most of the work.  He also shows you how to build jigs and templates.

  • Square drafting template (imperial if possible) - obtainable here

  • Mallet
  • Lee Valley Hole Punches - Designed by Darrell 
    or bring:
  • Chisels:
    • 2 mm (1/8")
    • 4mm (3/16")
    • 6mm (1/4")
    • 8mm (5/16")
    • Between Woodcraft's Pfeil Chisels and  Mike's Tools Two Cherries Chisels you should be able to get a full set.
  • 1/4" dowel points
  • White colored pencil
  • Small flush cutting handsaw
  • Layout tools:
    • Tape measure
    • Combination square,
    • Sharp pencil & eraser

Safety Gear:

Please bring personal safety gear - a well fitting dust mask, ear protection and goggles or glasses with polycarbonate lenses. 

What else to bring

Feel free to use a camera to make a visual record of the jigs and setups that you use in class.

We encourage you to bring a notebook and a pen or pencil

Prerequisites

In this class you will use routers, bandsaws and a variety of power sanders. You should be comfortable with the use of these tools.
